Skaitļa un cipara jēdzieni

Nereti dažādi jēdzieni tiek nepareizi lietoti ne tikai svešvalodā, bet arī dzimtajā valodā. Piemēram, latviešu valodā tiek savstarpēji jaukti tādi vārdi kā "cipars" un "skaitlis". Arī angliski tiem ir dažāda nozīme - attiecīgi "digit" un "number". Izmantojot analoģiju, ciparus ir iespējams uztvert kā "burtus", no kuriem tiek veidoti "vārdi" - skaitļi. Piemēram, skaitlis 1445 sastāv no četriem cipariem 1, 4, 4 un 5.

 

 

Cipari (Digits)

Cipars ir grafiskā zīme skaitļa apzīmēšanai.

Mūsdienās plaši tiek izmantoti divu veidu cipari: arābu un romiešu cipari.

- Arābu cipari (Arabic numerals) ir sekojoši: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

- Savukārt skaitļu pierakstam izmantojot Romiešu ciparus (Roman numerals) tiek lietoti šādi simboli I, V, X, L, C, D, M (kurus attiecīgi iespējams attēlot ar sekojošiem arābu cipariem - 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000). Romiešu ciparus atsevišķos gadījumos lieto, lai apzīmētu kārtas skaitļa vārdus.

Skaitļi (Numbers)

Skaitlis ir abstrakts matemātisks pamatjēdziens. Tas rakstiski visbiežāk tiek attēlots ar cipariem, bet ir ieviesti arī dažādi citi simboli, kas ļauj pierakstīt ļoti dažādus skaitļus. Skaitlis ir matemātisks objekts, ko lieto skaitīšanai un mērīšanai. Bez skaitīšanas un mērīšanas skaitļus lieto arī kaut kā apzīmēšanai, piemēram, telefona numuri, seriālie numuri un tā tālāk.

Matemātikā skaitļi tiek iedalīti skaitļu kopās jeb sistēmās. Vienkāršākā skaitļu kopa ir naturālie skaitļi, kurā ietilpst 1, 2, 3, 4 un tā tālāk līdz bezgalībai. Šī skaitļu kopa parasti tiek izmantota skaitīšanai. Tālāk naturālo skaitļu kopa ietilpst veselo skaitļu kopā, kurā ir iekļauti arī veseli negatīvie skaitļi un nulle. Savukārt šī skaitļu kopa ietilpst racionālu skaitļu kopā, tā atkal ietilpst reālo skaitļu kopā, un reālo skaitļu kopa ir daļa no komplekso skaitļu kopas. Pastāv arī citas skaitļu kopas, piemēram, iracionālo skaitļu kopa, kura kopā ar racionālajiem skaitļiem, veido reālo skaitļu kopu. Reālo skaitļu kopu veido arī algebriskie un transcendentie skaitļi. Reālo skaitļu kopas paplašinājumi ir kompleksie skaitļi, tālāk kvaternioni, oktonioni un sedenioni.

Gramatiski skaitļa vārdi (numerals) tiek iedalīti pamata (cardinal numerals) un kārtas (ordinal numerals) skaitļa vārdos.
